A Prophet's Life:
Getting to Know Ruth Thompson
Ruth Thompson, a prophet who lives in Kent, England, is a rheumatology nurse who looks after patients with inflammatory auto immune conditions. She loves riding motorbikes although she doesn’t have one now. She noted that she held a full motorbike licence for 20 years before finally passing her car test only 10 months ago at the grand age of 50.
We asked Ruth a few questions and here’s her reply:

1. What is your background? How did you come to Christ?
I grew up in a home where we went to church religiously and I also attended Sunday schools and church camps.
I first gave my life to Jesus when I was around 11 years old. Unfortunately, this relationship was rocky for many years as I underwent healing and deliverance from aspects of various traumas. Every time I doubted God, He proved Himself faithful, chasing me, pursuing me with his unfailing and passionate love. It was a love that I didn’t realise was good until I look back now and see Him cradling me, teaching me and wooing me through the fiery grace of His refining fire, until I was anchored and rooted in Him.

2. Tell us about your call to the prophetic.
Around 2015, I met Rebecca King at David’s Tent (72 hours of pure continuous worship) who was helping to head up the ministry teams. In 2017, Rebecca setup an Emerging Prophets course which I reluctantly joined after knowing that I wanted to delve deeper into the prophetic world.

We were given a form to complete and one of the questions that we had to ask ourselves was “am I a prophet”? Like a lot of people, this was a question that I had deliberately put off asking as I didn’t want to know the answer. In a quiet space in church that week, I took the form to God. Some of the questions where easy to answer and then came the dreaded question – and I asked it!

I didn’t expect what happened next; there was no direct answer. However, I could also not say that I wasn’t. No matter how hard I tried and no matter how much I wanted to say no, I couldn’t. In fact, I couldn’t even think that way. A few months later, God in His wisdom confirmed my call in the most undeniable way. And in 2018, God put me on one knee and knighted me with his fiery sword as his prophet.

3. What are you doing with/for Invictus Prophetic Global at the moment?
At the present time, I am supporting and facilitating the second year of Stuck2Struck in their final module. We are working through what it means to respond well to the call of God along with bringing and being stable in that call so that the people around us can not only hear the voice of God from our lips, but also know that our character is grounded in Jesus and the ultimate plumb line of His word.

4. What have you recently read that's had a great impact on you?
It’s a book called Imaginary Jesus by Matt Mikalatos. It’s a story that challenges our perception of who the real Jesus is. The author realizes his Jesus is imaginary and embarks on a mission to find the real One. He confronts various “false Jesuses” in a way that is really easy to read but has had a profound effect on what I believe, taking me back to the plumb line of Jesus.

5. What is God saying to you now?
The current conversation Jesus and I are having right now is around 2 Kings 18:4, when King Hezekiah broke the bronze snake as it had become an idol. The conversation is revolving around the symbols (including the cross) that we as Christians use and how we look at them. Think of it a little like how we mould Jesus into our own image. Do we worship the cross – or do we worship the one crucified? Do we worship worship itself (please don’t get me started on narcissistic worship…), or do we worship the One who is worthy of our worship? Do we worship the church and our Sunday coffee mornings? Or do we go to church to meet with believers to strengthen, encourage and teach, as well as to go out in the name of Jesus, bringing the Kingdom of heaven to earth through repentance, miracles, signs and wonders, as the Glory of God covers His creation.
